TenerifeBritish Airways takes a step closer to No Frills
Its reported in the press that British Airways intend to charge passengers to choose their seat. This effectively makes couples and families pay to guarantee being able to sit together. It's a move that takes them closer to the service offered by charter aircraft and the no frills carriers say airflight.co.uk a leading on line flight discounter.
The charges will affect those seeking to ensure they sit together on a flight and people with a preference for window, aisle or emergency exit seats. The charge is effective from the 7th of October. Presently the airline allows passengers to reserve seats only in the 24 hours prior to departure.
This new charge is aimed at passengers who want to reserve seats earlier than this. Charges are likely to be £20 on long-haul economy or short flights in business class, while a seat in an emergency exit row will cost £50. European flights may be in the region of £10.
Seats can be booked between 10 and four days before take-off.
A BA spokeswoman said: "Customers frequently request specific seats, but in the past we've only been able to confirm them 24 hours in advance or on the day. The airline is justifying the move on the basis that it gives customers the control of their seating preferences it follows recent changes in service with reduced luggage allowances and the cutting of free in flight meals on short haul flights.
This move is likely to increase passenger numbers choosing cheap Charter flights as the service levels on board move closer together say airflights.

How far will we go for a cheap flight asks online specilaist airflights.co.uk
Dalaman, TurkeyA new passenger airplane seating design is being considered in the UK where travellers are made to sit facing each other in rows, a bit like a bus or tube train. It is thought that this may result in cheaper air travel in the future.
If it is ever adopted this new seating plan for short hop flights likely offered by budget airlines has the potential to increase passenger capacity up to 50% and it is being mooted that savings in flying costs could be up to a third per seat.
Under this new idea, short-haul passenger would have to accept trading the normal aircraft type seats for flip-up versions with their backs to the window.
The aisles will be too narrow on these flights to allow normal catering trolleys to operate so it will inevitably be a "basic journey" say on line flight agent airflights.co.uk
The designers say that the idea is aimed at travellers who are flying for short journeys, maybe under an hour, designers say that the plane would be lighter, more fuel efficient and allow quick airport turnaround times.
The airline industry is rightly always looking to innovate say airflights.co.uk however the majority of our customers are families and couples going on a leisure break and whilst cost is always an important factor comfort is also a major consideration. They are going on holiday after all and want a relaxing flight both to and from their chosen destination. Flight facilities have been stripped away over the last few years, first it was meals and wine, then having to pay for luggage and now some of the more budget conscious airlines are charging to check in. There is a limit to how far the leisure consumer will allow the flight to be degraded say airflights. We are specialists in cheap flights and offer huge choice through our online portals however our customers are clear in their requirements of wanting the very best cost available but still with an enjoyable flying experience. We will just have to see if innovations such as this new seating plan are attractive enough in cost saving to tempt the discerning holiday maker.
You can find Airflights.co.uk on the web where they offer cheap flight comparisons and booking facilities to most beach destinations in Europe including cheap flights to Faro, Malta, Samos, Rhodes, Corfu, Kefalonia, Zante, Heraklion and Chania in Crete, Malaga, Alicante in Spain, Dalaman, Izmir Adnan and Bodrum in Turkey, Paphos and Larnaca in Cyprus, the Canary islands as well as Cheap flights and All Inclusive hotels in Egypts Red Sea mecca of Sharm El Sheikh famous for the unbeatable scuba diving. Book a Cheap Flight and beat the weather
Book a Cheap Flight and beat the weather
Dalaman, TurkeyThe suggestion by the Met Office that it over-played its prediction for a long hot dry summer is boosting sales of cheap flights and hotels say online travel agency airflights.co.uk.
Back in April the Met Office predicted a great summer with higher than average temperatures and lower than average rainfall prompting its press office to suggest the now infamous barbecue summer.
However, the great British weather choose the ignore the Met Office and gave us all an unusually wet July and with the prospects for August looking wet windy and miserable. The Met Office has now revised its prediction.
Lots of Europe are enjoying a heat wave, according to The association of British Travel Agents (Abta), which said that some members are seeing bookings boom as people give up hope of a hot domestic summer. The UK weather is a major determinant of holiday bookings and Abta said members have seen bookings up 30% in the last two weeks and up to 40% up on last year. This is borne out by our unprecedented level of bookings coming in online and over the telephone say airflights. Holiday makers want some sunshine and with some great deals around on cheap flights and hotels in places such as Turkey and Egypt people are deciding to travel to avoid the dismal weather at home say airflights.co.uk.
